Claire and Edward are two months old today.
We’ve got a nice routine these days. The twins eat every three hours during the day, and at night they sleep longer. Our nights are better than they used to be with tiny newborns. It also helps that Edward will finally take a pacifier. Claire and Edward usually eat for the last feeding of the day at 9 or 10 pm. Five hours later they wake up at 2 or 3 am. At 2 months, they are getting better about going back to sleep quicker in the middle of the night. Usually. Then they wake up about four hours later at 6 or 7 am.
I keep the twins on the same schedule as each other. Whoever wakes up first in the morning determines the timing for all three of us. When one baby eats, I make sure
that the other eats soon afterwards even if I have to wake him/her. This isn’t a problem… more often they are both demanding to eat at the same time!
The twins are cooing and smiling more and more every day, especially after they eat and get fresh diapers. It thrills me that when I get close enough to make eye contact, Claire and Edward will often break into a smile. Then we like to have a little conversation. Here’s a video of Edward cooing that sounds like he says, “hi!” The twins are staying awake longer after they eat. Instead of immediately going back in a swaddle, they rock with me in my glider, or lounge on boppy pillows, or hang out on a play mat. We do some tummy time but need to do more.
We listen to classical music throughout the day. Today we enjoyed some Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Handel, and Saint-Saëns. Occasionally we mix in a little jazz like today’s Solo Monk. I also sing lots of songs I know from camp, like “I Can Sing a Rainbow”, “The Sun Is a Very Magic Fellow”, and “Let Me Be A Little Kinder”. The books we’re reading at the moment are Goodnight Moon, I Love You Through and Through, and Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? I’ve started signing ASL signs for various diapering and feeding words. I loved signing with Patrick after we took classes from our friend Jess Kelly at Signs of Learning, and I’m excited to get the opportunity to teach signs to the twins.
Claire and Edward have started to outgrow some of their clothes. Claire wears mostly 0-3 month clothes now. Edward still wears a lot of Newborn clothes except for brands that run smaller like the Babies R Us newborn onesies. Both twins have recently moved up in diaper sizes from “N” to “1”. Claire weighs 8 pounds 13 ounces, and her little brother is up to 8 pounds 3 ounces. They both tolerate (but don’t necessarily enjoy) baths. They definitely dislike manicures.
Claire and Edward have blue eyes. In fact, the blanket in their photo complements their eye color very well. The color looks like their dad’s and brother’s beautiful blue eyes, so I hope they stay blue.
WOW Kristen, what beautiful babies but BEAUTIFUL pictures taken ….
Thank you, Mrs Margaret! The grandparents agree with you and requested printed copies. 🙂
